Northern Midlands Council Election

DANBYRON

A fresh voice for the Northern Midlands.

Vote 1 Byron for Councillor

Born and raised on a Tasmanian farm and an Evandale local, I've spent 20+ years working across education, government and community services. I strongly believe that Council should focus on practical outcomes that make a real difference to our everyday life. I'm committed to making that happen as your Councillor.

About Me

Why me and why now?

You may know me from behind the bar at the Clarendon Arms, where I work on weekends. What you may not know is that I was born and raised on a Tasmanian farm and am an Evandale local who has worked across education, government and community services throughout my career — developing policy, managing programs and supporting young people and communities.

Previously a Youth Worker for Eskleigh, I currently work for an Independent MP as well as working nights and weekends at The Clarendon Arms.

I'm standing for Northern Midlands Council because I care deeply about our community and want Council focused on practical outcomes that make a difference to everyday life.

Good intentions do not always translate into good outcomes on the ground. My experience across government, community work and business means I know how to navigate the system, break through roadblocks and get things done.

I'd love to hear what you want in our community — call me on 0468 646 976, I'm always happy to have a yarn.

Practical solutions to protect what we value, make Council easier to deal with, and build stronger local communities.

My focus, in one line

My Focus

Four priorities for the Northern Midlands.

Development & Planning

I want sensible, transparent planning decisions that protect what makes our towns work — without unnecessary delays for people doing the right thing.

I understand how government works and I'm going to level with you — by the time a development application hits the council table it's just a box ticking exercise to make sure it fits the existing rules. Council needs someone who understands what we want ahead of time, plans for the future and makes sure the community decides what those boxes that need ticking are, before the application is even made.

Community Safety

I'll back practical, visible steps that help people feel safe walking home, running a business, or letting the kids play outside.

Whether you are worried about crime, speeding in your street or accessible walking paths, there is always a solution that works. Too many times I've seen council and government dismiss an issue because the standard solution doesn't work. I will fight to ensure ALL options are explored and issues are actually addressed.

I will work with Council, police and other levels of government to improve safety through better street design, appropriate enforcement and sensible measures that keep our neighbourhoods safe, accessible and liveable.

Volunteering

I want to back the volunteers who already hold our community together, and make it easier for more people to get involved.

I've spent my life volunteering, starting as a young fella in the Tas Fire Service through to serving on community boards and service organisations and developing opportunities for young people to contribute to the community. Our community depends on volunteers for organisations, events and connectedness. I want to work with council to develop a volunteering strategy, support and partnerships that recognise and develop volunteers no matter where they are on their journey.

Business & Local Economy

I'll work to cut red tape for local business and back the ideas that keep young people and opportunity in the Northern Midlands.

Our local economies rely on people visiting, staying and spending locally. The Northern Midlands is one of Tasmania's key gateways, but we are also a destination in our own right. We have a great deal to offer and I want Council to actively support businesses and community groups to develop events, experiences and enterprises that attract visitors, encourage them to stay longer and bring more money into our towns.

As a rural municipality, good roads and reliable transport connections are essential. Our residents, farmers and businesses depend on roads that can safely accommodate cars, trucks and machinery. I will be a strong voice for proper maintenance, appropriate road design and infrastructure investment that reflects how our communities actually live and work.

I want the Northern Midlands to be known as a great place to live, work, visit and do business. That requires a Council that helps people get things done, rather than putting unnecessary obstacles in their way. If elected, I will work to ensure Council maintains high standards while making its processes clearer, more practical and less burdensome for residents and businesses.
